Embarrasingly enough, one of the online spaces I spend the most time in is called "Roblox". It's a Sandbox game largely designed for children with multiple "games" on its servers, but I've learned that there's a healthy amount of people in my age bracket that still enjoy it. I get to partake in a unique form of "people watching." I largely do not interact with others while I'm playing it, as I tend to just shut down my brain and mindlessly play whatever copypasted slop rolls across my "suggested games" page, but I do occasionally get to see and partake in interactions. There's a game that revolves around the theft of valuable objects from other players as it's main mechanic. It's even in the title of the game. But I noticed that most times I join the game, I see people sharing their spoils. They'll willingly give up valuable acqusitions to less fortunate players to engender a community of goodwill, and because the act of charity simply makes them feel good. This, as a recipiant of some of this goodwill, informed my choices playing the game, realizing that these were just worthless virtual items, and that giving some kid something rare could really make their day. I know mine was made by less when I was younger, playing the 2008 edition of Roblox. I have to hope that this is a positive sign for the youth of today. Generosity can only ever be positive, and a sort of "pay it forward" mentality is the basis of most social structure.
